Development kit for external authentication?

Is anyone aware of a development kit for writing external authenticate modules for Oracle 7?

Basically, I need the capabilities of OS Authentication, but it is going to be connecting from UNIX workstations that thousands of users have access to. As such, it would be entirely unnaceptable for Oracle to not verify the userid.

If it uses the .rhosts/hosts.equiv mechanism, it could simply verify that the connection is from a secure port. Otherwise it could use ident.
