How big is the SGA of the current instance on this box? This is an area where YMMV (your mileage may vary). Are there any processes other than Oracle and the standard Solaris ones that run on this box? Did the consultant give you any reason as to why he said what he said? We use performance monitoring utilities (monitor is free and comes to mind) that can give us an idea of memory usage on our systems.

Just to give you an idea of the wide variations of system configurations that we have. Our largest system runs a single instance of Oracle with 2GB of memory, it has numerous application servers. On the other end of the spectrum we have a 512MB machine that is running 5 instances.

This probably doesn't help immediately but hopefully it gives you something to think about or at least a direction you can head in....
