You don't have to rename the instance, assuming that you'll be using SQL*Net to  connect your clients. The easiest way to redirect your clients is simply to  create an alias in the TNSNAMES.ORA file called AMST that points to the ORCL  instance on your NT Server. User connections would specify a service name of  AMST, and the alias would direct the connection to the ORCL instance.

Personally, I'd prefer to create a custom database for production use, rather  than use the default ORCL instance that is created during Oracle installation.   This way, you have some control over the names, sizes, and locations of the  database data files. You can use Oracle's NT Instance Manager to create a  custom instance (named anything) and SYSTEM data file, then create the rest of  the database yourself.
