Depends. (Amazing, eh?) If the data and structure are simple enough, I would look at multiple instances for each branch, with certain key val and master data tables replicated from a master db. Db links and synonyms can help make data at remote sites look local. Security and bandwidth are your big killers.

I'm assuming by branch you mean remote sites? If these are all in teh same building, you can do wonders with views and synonyms in a single DB - 7.3 allows updateable views as well, for certain restricted conditions.

With multiple schemas, one can backup and others chug merrily along. With advanced replication, your snapshots can even be updated at any of the sites, with changes propagated to the other DBs. Received on Tue Sep 16 1997 - 00:00:00 CDT
