Dedicated server connection problem

I'm trying to force a dedicated server connection to a server running 7.3.3 rdbms and sqlnet 2.3.3 and configured as a multi-threaded server. The service name I'm using is defined in tnsnames.ora using the string (server=dedicated) in the connect_data clause as per documentation and through files defined by the Oracle Network Manager.

I get an error ORA-12504- TNS:listener was not given the SID in CONNECT_DATA Any ideas?
