i seem to remember, last time i used sql*loader, that you *can* specify the format of input dates (i just can't remember how, off hand, but it's in the manual), so you should be able to define a date format of yyyymmdd in your control file. also, i think (don't quote me) that, although you may *enter* dates as dd-mon-yy (say), oracle actually stores the full year (ie, your data is y2k correct). so you should be able to avoid the ugly date arithmetic.
