Relative performance of OCI versus ESQL/C (PRO*C)

We are doing some evaluation of relative performance of ESQL/C and OCI in Oracle. The generated code from PROC*C is not OCI, and I have heard that ESQL/C is about 5% faster (select processing), than similar OCI. Cursor caching and other issues, what is the 'net consensus.
