ORA 600 is a generic.

Ring Oracle for the translation on the error message.

Has this database ever worked.

I've forgotten the order myself but stages are: nomount
mount
open

init.ora
controlfiles
datafiles.

mount should read init.ora and controlfile. open will try and read the datafiles, check against the redo, datafiles, control files for any problems - using smon. need more information.
has it ever worked. have you been changing file permissions. what else does the alert file say
was the last shutdown a shutdown abort.
