Hi Bala:

I would suggest you to read both the books: Oracle Network Manager - Administrator's Guide and Oracle Names - Administrator's Guide at least 2 times thoroughly. Setting up Oracle Names is easy but only if you understand it.

The database for Oracle Names server is small one and you do not need to set up a different machine for that. Infact if you have 2 unix machines, I would recommend you to set 2 ORacle names servers on the two machines.
