I am looking for some detailed info on using utl_file in a production enviroment. We are using a Sun 3000 w/solaris and oracle 7.3.2. w/ about 75 7/24 users(users on win nt w/sql-net). The client application is being written with Centura. What we want to do is write a error handling package that can be called by other stored procedures etc. We want this error handling package to write to the server operating sys files not the client systems(we know this is possible from std docs). The reason we want to do it this way is so that all errors/exceptions that occur are logged in operating systems files that are accessed by cron which we pages support people etc. We feel also that this allows us a running log of errors that the Developers & DBA's can access Since we are rolling out this as part of a new app we can spec all required config at either end (server, client).

I would like to hear form anyone who has done anything similiar. Any comments and constructive suggestions are welcome
