Valid values for NLS_SORT

I've noticed that, unfortunately for us, the default value for NLS_SORT when NLS_LANGUAGE is American with ORACLE Server 7.1.6 seems to be binary. I do not like this since this makes ORDER BY's appear as case-sensitive. I need to find a list of valid values for NLS_SORT and have not been able to track it down by browsing through the ORACLE manuals. The ORACLE SQL Language manual says to refer to the ORACLE Administrator's manual for an explanation of the NLS_SORT session variable. I did this and while the Administrator's manual gives a reasonable explanation of how NLS_SORT works, it only gives an example of a valid value and says to look at your user's guide or installation guide for valid values. Well I've tried to figure out exactly which manual this means without luck so far. By guesswork I've identified some valid NLS_SORT values (Turkish, German, French, Hebrew), but haven't been able to guess the appropriate equivalent value for non-case sensitive American. Can anybody help me out by either telling me which manual a can find a list of valid NLS_SORT values in, or tell me the value I'm looking for in this case?

Thanks,
George Strain
