Connect Internal asks for a password

I have inherited an Oracle 7.3 database on Solaris which I have to maintain. I have three instances dev, test and prod. These were created by a group which ahs left. When I use Server Manager Line Mode under Solaris for Oracle 7.3 I am asked for a password when I try to 'connect internal' to any of these instances.

If the instance is set to local then I am able to connect internal. What must be the reason for not being able to connect to the above instances. The UNIX user (oracle software owner - oracle) logging in to run svrmgrl is part of the dba group.

Also I cannot connect as SYSDBA via Enterprise Manager. I am unable to grant SYSDBA or SYSOPER privilege as no user seems to have thsi privilege.

This means that if an instance is up I am not able to shut it down In fact 'dbshut' does not continue after starting server manager.

Is it possible that ORAPWD utility was used to set passwords? Any other reasons?

Thanks for any help Received on Mon May 26 1997 - 00:00:00 CDT
