What version of Oracle are you using? OS authentication works in Oracle
Workgroup Server (don't know about the non-workgroup version) 7.3, but not in
7.1. To add insult to injury, if you do a "create user <username> identified
externally" in 7.1 it does not give an error. It creates the user, but the poor
slob can never log in!
