 Is this a daft question (mine, that is, not yours): Why aren't you using the native drivers that come free of charge? They are faster and a lot less hassle.

As regards your problem (if you insist on sticking with ODBC), have you got 32 bit ODBC drivers installed? Who's? Oracle or Microsoft? Can you connect anything else (i.e., Excel) to the database via ODBC? Have you looked up 12196 in the Oracle error codes and messages manual?
