SPEAK AT THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS DB2 EVENT


IDUG offers you a unique opportunity to share your knowledge, experience and expertise at the world's most prestigious DB2 event.

NEW for 1997, IDUG is expanding the types of presentations it is accepting. In addition to DB2 specific papers, IDUG is looking for papers that will help its members who work in a heterogeneous environment. If your knowledge and experience includes working with the DB2 Product Family* and/or DB2 and any other database engine, please share your expertise with other DB2 users by presenting at IDUG's 3rd Annual Asia Pacific Conference in Sydney.

PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS


IDUG requires that all presentations comply with the IDUG mission statement:

The International DB2 Users Group (IDUG) is an independent, not-for-profit, user-run organization whose mission is to support and strengthen the information
systems community by providing the highest quality education and services designed to promote the effective utilization of the DB2 Product Family.

The only other requirements are that technical presentations feature at least one member of the DB2 Product Family and DB2 must be a component of the presentation if other database engines are mentioned.

PRESENTATION TOPICS


IDUG's goal is to achieve a balanced conference program focusing on business solutions that are pertinent to the day-to-day jobs of DB2 professionals.
Here are a few suggested topics:

        o Implementing the New Release of DB2
        o Keys to Client/Server Performance Management
        o Exploiting Relational with Advanced SQL Techniques
        o Data Warehousing and Data Mining Experiences
        o Distributed DB2 Performance Capacity Planning
        o EXPLAIN Across the Enterprise
        o Experiences Migrating Between Platforms
        o Practical Database Design Tips
        o The Procedural DBA: Triggers, Functions and Procs

PRESENTATION LENGTH


60 minute presentation

THE BENEFITS OF PRESENTING


If your 60 minute presentation is selected, you'll be eligible for a free 2 day conference registration and a reduced fee for an in-depth seminars.
Dual presentations are only eligible for one free conference registration and a second registration at a reduced rate.

The free 2 day conference registration fee includes access to all conference activities,
scheduled meals and social functions, conference programme materials, proceedings. Speaker s will be given the option to attend the In-Depth Seminars at a reduced rate. A one year IDUG membership is also included.

All presenters are eligible for "The Best User Presentation" award. One speaker is selected for this award. If your presentation wins, IDUG will send you to deliver your presentation at its 10th annual conference
in North America (10-14 May 1998 in San Francisco, California, USA).

Another benefit is how appreciative you'll find the IDUG attendees. They'll let you know how much they enjoyed your presentation and how much it will help them when they get back to the office.

The benefits of presenting at IDUG are twofold. You are able to help your fellow DB2 Professionals and reap the benefits of attending the conference yourself!

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES


Submitting an abstract for consideration is simple. Just complete a Call for Presentations Application Form, either attached below, or visit the IDUG Web site http://www.idug.org and submit online. The submission form must be received by 25 April 1997. Examples are included to help you through the process. Promotion of products and services are not allowed during these time slots. Vendor presentations are available for that purpose.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS


You may submit multiple presentations.
It is very important that you provide ALL of the information requested below when submitting your presentation(s) for review.

Items 1 and 2 should be submitted only once, regardless of how many presentations you are submitting; please limit this information to no more than one page for items 1 and 2 combined.

  1. SPEAKER INFORMATION Include your name, professional title, organisation name, business address, city, state or province, country, ZIP or postal code, telephone and FAX numbers, include city and country codes, and an E-mail address.
  2. SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY In 100 words or less, elaborate upon your professional and outside experiences as they pertain to your presentation(s).

Items 3-10 should be submitted with EACH presentation; please limit this information to no more than two pages for all information requested in items 3-10 combined.

3. PRESENTATION TITLE
        Titles should be clear, concise and 50 characters or less.

4. PRESENTATION LENGTH
        Please indicate length of presentation.

5. PLATFORM
        Indicate platform(s) to which your presentation applies, such as MVS, AIX, Windows/NT, Windows/95, Unix environments, AS400, OS/2 etc...

6. PRESENTATION CATEGORY
        Although your presentation may apply to many categories, some of the most popular are listed below.

8. PRESENTATION ABSTRACT AND 5 KEY BULLET POINTS         Provide a concise 50-word abstract of your presentation. Example: The purpose of the presentation is to give the attendee an approach to physical
design.

        The presentation will cover inputs required (both data and process) and how to use a spreadsheet to arrive at physical decisions. Real-life examples will be included. Also include five brief bullet points describing
the key points in your presentation.

        If your presentation is selected, this information will be
published
        in the conference promotional and on-site programme materials to

attendees decide which presentation they will attend. (Note: Any selected abstract of more than 50 words will be edited.)
