You can certainly have two master sites and they can communicate either synchronously or asynchronously. There is no need to have them communicate BOTH synchronously AND asynchronously. If two sites are communicating synchoronously, then changes to one site are not comitted until the changes are posted to the other site. Therefore, the two sites are ALWAYS in sync.
