we have a simple dbase db on an NT machine right now. we would like to move it to oracle on an x86 based machine. ideally, we would like to use solaris x86 because we already have a solaris x86 machine to some other low-intensity activities.

is the price difference between solaris x86 oracle and NT oracle roughly the same. if not how different are they? we only have one or two connections to the db at a time & i doubt it will get above 5 for the near future.

we would *really* like to get away from NT for the db server portion of our activities so any information you could give me or point me to on solaris x86 oracle would be much appreciated. testimonials on the merits of solaris x86 would also be very helpful. along with any good arguments on why solaris x86 oracle is a better general solution than NT oracle.

if you email to me at

i can post a summary of the replies when they come in. if you'd rather just reply to the newsgroup that's ok too but a summary by me might be the best for everyone.

thanks for any help you can provide..
