<<General request for file protection against OS crash>>

Note that RAID 5 only protects against the loss of 1 disk in the raid set at a time. I know a raid 5 site that lost two disks at once in a set. Total power loss and surges can do that. Hardware wise, your site should have some type of power supply protection system.

With mirrowing or raid 5 you should still use Oracle mirrowing of the redo logs to protect against Oracle data block corruption in the redo. I suggest using at least three log groups to two members each.

You should also check out the 'hot' backup procedures in the dba admin guide. Windows for backup and maintenance are getting two short to do both.

just some thoughts.
