Willy, we are ourselves looking at upgrading to Oracle 7.2 (can't go yet to 7.3 unfortunately) and our Oracle sales representative confirmed that version 7.2.3 was certified with AIX 4.2.x

Of course, this is as per Oracle Corp... needs checking!
