We spent many weeks and $Ks investigating a similar problem, without ever getting to the bottom of it.

My memory is somewhat hazy (this was over 1 year ago at a different site), but I think our set up was Oracle server 7.1.6 on HPUX 10, OnNet PC/TCP, WFWG 3.11, VB app accessing Oracle through RogueWave dbtools.h++ .
The VB app, RogueWave dlls, and various log files were originally held on the HPUX server, and accessed through PC/TCP NFS. The apparently random error code we saw was 3114 -- Not connected to server. (Presumably there had been a previous 3113, but this wasn't trapped.)

We used a lan sniffer to analyse lan traffic, and got OnNet, HP and Oracle support involved, all without success.

We finally circumvented the problem by moving the app, dlls, and log files to a WinNT file server.

If you've got the option (and even if you haven't!) I suggest investigating a different file server setup, or keeping the application on the PCs. It'll cost you less in the long run.

Good luck....
