I am needing to come up with a database solution for a project. The initial scale will be low, i.e. 100 SQL transactions per minute but will grow into the thousands within a year. My initial research has led me to Oracle because of it's distributed layout and clustering capabilities.

My initial thoughts are to start with a multi-processor PentiumPro system running either Solaris x86 or UnixWare. Close to year end a second 4 processor P6 system or an would be added.

Question: Is a multi-processor P6 recomended (vs. RISC like UltraSparc or ALPHA)?

Question: Is Solaris x86 or UnixWare recomended? What else is there? Don't say NT, not an option!

I heard, from an unreliable source, that Oracle will only support NT for v.8. Is this true? This can't possibly be true!
