Clues on instance failed to start?

On time, a DBA accidentally altered a letter on one of the init parameter name and as a result, the instance refuses to start. The funny thing is that Orcale virtually says nothing in its log file except a clueless 'instance failed to start.'

Has this ever happened to you? what are the other intelligent ways to identify one mispelled init parameter name in your init.ora file?

Thanks,
