Hi you client-server/Oracle specialistst out there,
My organisation is on a fast road to client-server applications (SUN/Oracle/Win-NT/Netware). We are experienced in terminal emulation on Netware LAN's (8 sites/12 Netware servers/1.200 users) to mainframe and AS-400 systems.
Our LAN to WAN network consists of 2 Mbs line with 1-2 64 kbs lines as backup. We presently experience no performing problem while users mainly stay on their local Netware servers en only interconnnect with character based host-terminal applications en internal Netware Groupwise traffic. Our LAN's are 10 Mbs and very well hubbed, switched and bridged and planned for update to 100Mbs.
Our new client-server world will be based on Windows-NT clients and Oracle Forms applications connecting with Oracle SQLnet and TCP/IP to SUN servers running Oracle >7.3 which are centrally located (yes, one computing centre, based on years of mainframe experience).
The real question is: based on a average of 100-200 users on a LAN, how many concurrend users (0,4 *100-200) can be served with a 2 Mbs line from each LAN to the central server with Oracle applications (average 2 sessions/user) and a BAAN IV application (also Win/Oracle)....
any experiences...
Mario
