DBA_SEGMENT query question

Greetings all -

I am running Oracle 7.2.3 and receive the following output from a query against DBA_SEGMENTS:

SEGMENT_NAME SEGMENT_TYPE EXTENTS MAX_EXTENTS

------------------------- ----------------- ---------- -----------
1.377                     CACHE                      1           0

What the heck is a cache segment and how is the EXTENTS value larger than MAX_EXTENTS ?
