Oracle Instances (overhead)

Can anyone tell me what kind of overhead is associated with an oracle
instance and database?



For example , if I have 1 instance , and want a second , will it take up
twice as much memory and disk space. So I guess the quesstion is, is it
like running a second oracle sever, or is there sharing of resources?
