Larry,

There is no simple answer your question. Your HP vendor should be able to articulate the distintions between using a single-mega-fast CPU versus other options for your specific application.

As for query performance, I think most oracle geeks will concur that bottlenecks are most likely to occur at the I/O level. 50GB+ over 2 controllers sounds weak but , I may be spoiled. When it comes to CPU operations such as sorting, you will want to know how your hardware configuration (ie. CPU(s)) will perform for such operations.

In addition, I would suggest you explore/exploit the use of parallel query processing as this will provide fabulously better performance than the conventional single task query. Even if you have a single CPU, you will find applications which can benefit from this functionality.
