Many people have asked this duties question, and there are many different answers. It is site-specific. Sites have different definitions of what a DBA is. The size of the site often is a major determinant. A large site likely has a staff with very specific duties, a small site one person may wear many hats. Most of my job, for example, is app development and maintenance. Other places have a specialist in EM making alerts. The parts of db administration that can't be automated are what give value. So for the most part, one needs to become very good at several other things (such as a developer or application specialist) before moving up into a business critical role. The classes and certifications are a far cry from the actual work.

You might try this search: https://community.oracle.com/search.jspa?q=daily+dba+tasks&customTheme=otn

I was interested in relational databases as a programmer, then when Oracle started to become big I specialized in that. I was doing DBA tasks for a long time before I finally got dragged into the actual job role.

The role continues to evolve, so any advice will get outdated within a few years. That's why I generally advice newbies to get a developer job, watching and waiting to see what happens - some places have insufficient administration, and you can move up into the role when that becomes apparent.
