Job Title: IT Senior Systems Engineer

Duration: 6 Months

Job Description:
The IT Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the building and maintaining of the New York Life Retirement Plan Services (RPS) server and network infrastructure. In addition, this Sr. Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems and all platforms supporting RPS? enterprise systems. This is a technical role, working with other senior members of the QA, Development and SQL team. The candidate must have a strong background in Microsoft Windows 2008, VMware VSphere 4 and/or 5, enterprise storage technologies (e.g. EMC), LAN/WAN technologies, and network/ infrastructure administration.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Support
-Build systems as part of project requirements and on occasion as part
of ad hoc requests
-Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure smooth and reliable
operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
-Respond to systems issues to best support our internal customers
-Participate in 24 x 7 on-call rotation
-Ability to respond to crisis situations in a methodical way and to
prioritize work effectively
-Ability to take project ownership

Operational Administration:
-Write, deliver, and update concise and logical technical
documentation, including, but not limited to; diagrams, charts, specifications and design models
-Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop
and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
-Demonstrate working knowledge of Windows performance tuning
-Design and perform server and security audits, system backup
procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company?s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
-Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software,
groupware, and other applications.

Job Requirements:
-College degree in Information Technology and Microsoft certifications
are helpful but not required. Comparable experience may be substituted
-7 + years in with server applications in a Windows datacenter
environment
-Financial services experience preferred
-Areas of expertise should include at least three or more of the
following, EMC storage (Unified Storage, VPlex, Clariion, VNX) or comparable enterprise storage technology; Windows 2008 R2 server operating systems, MS SQL Server 2008 R2, VMware VSphere 4 and/or 5, VMware vCloud Director, Microsoft SharePoint, MS SL Dynamics
-Experience supporting 24x7 critical systems
-Weekend work occasionally needed for windows patching
-Excellent written and verbal communications
-Understand the value of proper documentation
-Must possess excellent time management skills
-ITIL experience and/or certification helpful but not required
-Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Summary of Responsibilities:
