BTW, if you have Xming (or some other X server) running on your PC, and you use Putty to connect via the Secure Shell, and it's configured for X windows tunneling, it will automatically set DISPLAY to "localhost:10.0" and thereby tunnel the X windows interface over the secure shell port. Works very well.
