As far as I know you need Oracle Wallet, and Oracle Wallet needs Oracle Internet Directory --->you need both Infrastructure and Mid-tier. OID sits in the Infrastructure layer, by default.
We administer several installations with midtier/infrastructure/portal
on one server. Usually the customer sooner or later regrets having put
everything on one server. Please note you will need a separate OHS
(=Apache) for Midtier and a separate OHS for Infrastructure, and OHS
is CPU-intensive.
And yes, OHS may hog the server, especially if all communications are
SSL.
