I'm with Sybrand here. I probably wouldn't be if I wasn't responding to 'unix.guru1', but hubris is evident just from such a moniker. After 17 years on many unix and having seen many controller issues, I wouldn't dream of calling myself a unix guru. I'm having difficulty trying to imagine how controller could mean something different in the context of the cited doc.

Time to 'fess up, unix.guru1. Did you load linux on a PC and think you could play in the big leagues?
