This means nothing - people produce and buy poor software all the time.

*_Generally_* speaking "database neutrality" is a synonym for "crap system" - the lowest common denominator wins out.

It would appear that you are either going to have to do something in your application code or forget about using Oracle.

When asking database related questions, please give other posters 
some clues, like operating system, version of db being used and DDL.
The exact text and/or number of error messages is useful (!= "it didn't work!").
