Thanks for your post. I understand that the question I asked should not be of present concern to me since I have just started learning Oracle (and more so because I might never get in to designing database etc).

But again, I wouldnt have asked this if the said colleague (from my original post) hadnt made the statemnt in the class. Its like 10 people in the class hear it and 8 of might think it is true and 6 of them might be long term (let's say atleast 3-4 years of their active life) end users of the product and these 6 in turn might parrot out (wrongly) to 30 of their colleagues that all queries first start with cartesian etc. and etc. (and the 30 new converts wouldnt doubt the 6 because they have a tag of certificate behind them?) The vicious cycle of misinformation would feed on itself.
