Thanks to you both. I'm familiar with Mark's suggestions and in fact it
is how I solved the problem before I posted the question. I just
wondered if there was a way to avoid odbc access with ms access. I'm
not familiar with sqlldr so I'll google it - of course - and read up on
it.
