Oops, I should have searched for oracle.sql.INTERVALDS and oracle.sql.INTERVALYM. Nothing mysterious about those after all, and they have constructors that take String arguments so constructing your own instances and writing a custom TableCellEditor for a JTable couldn't be easier.
