I started with "Oracle 8i DBA Bible.pdf" which is good. You can download it from my computer using edonkey

ed2k://|file|Oracle%208i%20DBA%20Bible.pdf|5624644|9582FE3A80BB688971BC75EB3CDFBAFE|h=HVA7TA2USV7ZEY3Z4WW2D2DTEK7QEWYL|/

I have another good doc with tips

ed2k://|file|Oracle%20Tips.doc|698368|C21EA73881A4204A12B6E24362DEACAF|h=Z7CXV326T557PZR5ZMBWAVI3GYDW7RYB|/

which contains references to many scripts good for starting from this site http://www.dbaoncall.net/index_files/index_oracle.html

to explore specific point ho to http://tahiti.oracle.com/ and read relevant pages. This is the way I started. It takes 1 week full time work.
