 Based on my experience, I would

  1. dump backup to tape as a primary target and go to disk. (Then use a standard backup to tape utility from the disk backup area). The reason, disk is now relatively inexpensive. 68GB of SCSI disk is a lot cheaper than any 'Oracle backup to tape' connector.
  2. look at the Oracle provided RMAN. In 9i it was a solid product. In 10g it is very good.
