Oracle XML DB Repository vs XMLTYPE

Hi,

we need to store some XML documents in an Oracle database. We're considering either mapping XML data to relational data manually, or taking advantage of XML
DB of Oracle 9i and higher.

Beeing a XML/Oracle newbie, I understand there are two options - to store XML docs in:

• XML DB Repository
• XMLTYPE column of a db-table

Are there any other options? What are the implications of choosing either XML DB repository or XMLTYPE datacolumn?

In terms of:

• querying the data (both from single XML document or across multiple XML docs)
• performance
• diskspace
• ...

Do you have any suggestions or experience to share?
