I'm a big advocate of figuring things out by trying them out, but there are some big caveats to point out.

What you learn, especially for unusual edge cases, may be the coincidental, undefined, or even buggy, answer that should not be used as an answer for any real programming task.

What you learn is only as good as your test case, which itself may have flaws, misunderstandings, or out and out bugs, and therefore cannot be relied upon for and any real programming task.
