That syntax is dependant on the tool / environment you use.

Please tell us a bit more - are you using SQL*Plus or some other DB access language? (If SQL*Plus, I highly recommend reading the SQL*Plus User's Manual, as there are literally hundred of neat things you can do! It's available at http://docs.oracle.com)
