Installer Question

I have been tasked with uninstalling the 8.1.6 client version from our systems and installing the 9i runtime version and modifying the tnsnames.ora file. I need to use Microsoft's SMS 2.0 server to do this and I have scripted the 9i install with a response file and the modifying of the file is easy with SMS.

The issue I have is getting the 8.1.6 version uninstalled. I used the 9i installer in record mode to create the response file and as a part of that procedure I uninstalled the 8x version. When I run the 9i installer with the new response file it does not uninstall the 8x version.

My question is, is there another way to automate the uninstall of the 8x version? I can run the 8x installer via an SMS command but cannot find a listing of any command line parameters that can be used. In other words, is there a command to uninstall the installed version (ex. Setup.exe /removeall).

I can run this then when complete run the 9i package to install the runtime and modified .ora file.

The workstations are WinXP sp2. I read in another post that prior to 8.1.7.3 versions are not certified on XP so I assume this is the issue. I am looking for another way to do this.

Thanks for any info on this....
