Daniel, I did not mena to offend you, and if I did, please accept my apologies.

Let me re-word my point: the approach that Steve if describing could actually work out quite well. I've seen it succeed.

Right now they seem to be evaluating feasability of migration and/or choosing the platform to port to. That does not mean that he need to think about performance of every query at this stage. If they do decide to migrate, they are quite likely to bring in expert(s) anyway.

It is quite possible that even an expert will not optimize the query that uses CAST, if that query is not run frequently Received on Sat Feb 26 2005 - 16:23:16 CST
