Hmm I seems to get it to work now when I enable "Force SQL_WChar support" on the workarounds tab. I tested this earlier but it did not work then. When I created a new odbc connection and enabled "Force SQL_WChar support" it works. I'm not sure why I had to add a new ODBC datasource but maybe connection pooling makes Access use the "pooled" values (so the new settings do not apply)? I see now that the Force retrieval of Longs is only used when fetching long columns.

Feel free to shed some light if you have any additional information about this.
