Your underlying assumption, that Oracle costs more than its competitors is false. I challenge anyone to produce evidence that they can produce comparable sysystems in DB2, Sybase, Informix, or SQL Server for less.

Evidence ... BTW ... is not rumors and anecdotes. I have heard this many times but not once have I seen evidence that Oracle is actually more expensive.
