This is about the worst time in recent history to want to be a DBA. There are a lot of very skilled developers, far more knowledgeable, than you that will get first crack at these jobs. And there is an ever increasing pool of them too.

I would suggest that if this is your goal you set your sites on either PL/SQL developer or UNIX sys admin. And then make the move, if you can, in 5-7 years.
