What do you need from the App Server? The 'newness' depends on what you need to accomplish .... the following is my interpretation:

• 9.x is newer than 1.x across the board
• 9.0.3 is the same as 9.0.2 except the 'Java Edition'
• 9.0.2 Java Edition matches J2EE 1.2
• 9.0.3 Java Edition matches J2EE 1.3
• 9.0.4 is another name for 10g
• 9.0.4 Java Edition seems to match J2EE 1.4
• 9.0.4 Standard and Enterprise are radical improvements over 9.0.2
