I think there is a big difference between me or you posting the following:
"Get yourself a copy of Tom Kyte's book ...."
And Tom Kyte or his publisher or a bookstore posting the same thing.
One is a direct response to a specific issue raised by an OP and from which we benefit by not one cent ... the other is a purely self-serving commercial message. The text may be the same ... but there is a very tangible difference.
I am as big a capitalist as anyone else and it is not my intent, no matter how construed, to stop commercial speech or censor posts. What I want to do is establish clarity as to what is spam so that these groups can be defended against those whose purpose is to use them as a marketing tool and thus ruin them for their original and intended purpose.
Given that this thread has already received negative reaction from some ... why don't we take this off-line?
