Well I downloaded the referenced document describing installation issues with Oracle 9i under Linux 9.0 ... and I may very well have some of those issues yet to confront. However, I don't think I am even getting to the point where the glibc stuff is an issue ... I think I am bombing before the actual installation even starts ... still in the first install GUI ... someone referenced the DISPLAY variable ... however since the GUI was up and I was interacting with it .. I doubt that is the problem.

I got a copy of Linux 8.0 and am installing it on a spare drive and will try the Oracle installation next on it to see if any differences take place ...

I do appreciate everyone's input ... just haven't found the magic bullet yet
