But this was such a FUNDAMENTAL question that it is hard for anyone answering it to not sound like they are talking down. And it did appear to be like a homework assignment style problem, which is why I did not even bother to answer it.
Sybrand gave a calm, informative reply. If that annoyed you, just wait until you encounter a troll, or Sybrand in a bad mood :-) Get some thicker skin or you won't last long on usenet.
Lastly, it really might be helpful for you to go to an ORACLE training class.
