yes, you can. I did, too.
I installed Oracle 8.0.5 personal edition on XP home. Every time the database starts, Windows will show an error, indicating strtdb80.exe has thrown an exception (I don't remeber the exact name of the file, but it's similar name).
But if you click on "OK", you can continue and use Oracle normally.

But if you can, use 9i on XP, is much better!!
